Esports World Cup Opens New Global Pathways to EWC 2027

The Road to EWC targets 1.8 million players across 400+ events in 2027 as the Qualifier Program expands its connection with established tournaments and creates massive new opportunities for local esports communities worldwide.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (October 21, 2026): The Esports World Cup (EWC) today announced the 2027 EWC Qualifier Program, a partner initiative within the Road to EWC that enables tournament organizers and local esports communities worldwide to run official qualifying competitions.

This program marks a massive expansion of the Road to EWC pathway, bringing publisher-led leagues, international tournaments, and regional qualifiers together under one global championship umbrella. The newly expanded Qualifier Program will strengthen these existing connections while creating genuine, grassroots opportunities for players to begin their professional competitive journey right in their own local communities.

“Road to EWC has shown what is possible when the different pathways across competitive esports connect to one global destination. There are great tournaments and strong esports communities in every part of the world. By bringing more of them into Road to EWC, we can create more opportunities for players to compete in their own communities and give local esports ecosystems an official role in building the pathway to the Esports World Cup.”

— Faisal Bin Homran, Chief Product Officer, Esports Foundation

Two Partner-Operated Routes

The EWC Qualifier Program offers two distinct partner-operated routes designed to bring both established competitive circuits and local grassroots tournaments into the official Road to EWC:

  • EWC Direct Qualifiers: This route expands the connection between established esports tournaments and the Road to EWC. Organizers will continue to operate and fund their competitions under their own established identity and retain local commercial opportunities. As long as they meet EWC and publisher standards, they can provide their players with an official, direct pathway to the Esports World Cup.
  • EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers (SLCQs): A brand-new route aimed entirely at grassroots participation. Local tournament organizers, federations, associations, cyber cafés, universities, esports venues, and gaming festivals can apply to connect their existing competitions or build new ones. Winners earn guaranteed entry into the relevant EWC Last Chance Qualifier tournaments next summer, with the Esports Foundation providing essential accommodation and visa support.

Initial SLCQ Game Roster: The EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers will initially be available across Chess, Counter-Strike 2, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6, with more games to be announced soon.

Application Details & Deadlines

The sheer value of additional qualification pathways has already been proven. In 2024, João “jafonsogv” Vasconcelos fought his way through the EA SPORTS FC Last Chance Qualifier before miraculously becoming the EWC champion, inspiring the creation of the Jafonso Award to recognize his incredible underdog accomplishment.

Applications for tournament organizers, local venues, and operators worldwide to officially join the 2027 EWC Direct Qualifiers and Satellite LCQ program are now open on esportsworldcup.com.

  • Applications will officially close on December 20, 2026.
  • All approved qualifying events must conclude by June 1, 2027.
